A B.C. Human Right's Tribunal found that a recent article in Macleans Magazine by Mark Steyn may cause unwarranted fear of Muslims. The Tribunal stated that the said article "may attempt to rally public opinion by exaggeration and causing the reader to fear Muslims". But the Tribunal also ruled that "fear is not synonymous with hatred or contempt." The Tribunal ruled that Maclean's did not endorse the views of Steyn by printing his "yellow peril" article, and that Maclean's could not be responsible for the content of the many blogs left of people expressing hatred on the basis of the publication.

The Ontario Human Rights Commission felt differently and condemned the publication. See more
